Fear of Sharing Your Opinion

Opinions are like Blogs, everyone has one. That’s why when it comes to having a Fear of Sharing Your Opinion, it’s important to realize that everyone is constantly on the edge of their seat waiting to hear what you have to say about any topic. Especially online! People love having the opportunity to share their hot take on something they are an expert on almost as much as people enjoy reading the opinions of others. This is why the comments section was invented and is only ever utilized for sharing positive, worthwhile information that enhances one’s perspective on society. However, some people might not want to share their thoughts out loud, online, or even embrace what is in their head. Let’s explore what having a Fear of Sharing Your Opinion could look like. Are you excited to dive into this topic further? I don’t need to hear your thoughts on that question. Of course you are!

Show of Hands: Fear of Sharing Your Opinion

“What did you think of that latest summer blockbuster?” “Can you believe how well this sports team is doing?” “This restaurant offers great food at even better prices.” “That’s a fun, new internet slang word that absolutely should be used in everyday conversation as it’s simply a better way to communicate!” Universally, everyone shares the same stance on every topic.  However, in real life, you are often reminded that your opinion is wrong, and having the audacity to share a thought that contradicts someone else’s in even the most slight variance is often an invitation to disaster. Even if two people share the same opinion, one often finds a way to make it known their thoughts were the original ones on the subject Even agreements are just disagreements in disguise. Go ahead, try to tell me I’m wrong.

It’s no wonder so many people have a newly diagnosed Fear of Sharing Your Opinion in a world where there are so many ways to express yourself and even more ways for people to respond to those expressions. In the past, people would have to work to acquire a soapbox to stand upon if they wanted to make a declaration in the town square. We’ve come a long way from those days, as soapboxes can now be delivered same-day with a Prime subscription. Whether you are posting to an online forum, sitting at home having a discussion with your cats, or in the midst of a large family gathering, there are so many opportunities for a seemingly innocuous conversation about why diamonds are a nice shape quickly devolves into grandma explaining how luxury tax is irrelevant and why her new favourite baseball team has always been the best. Better than your team, punk.

Say No To Fear of Sharing Your Opinion

You might be wondering why someone might develop this Fear or how someone can overcome it. The biggest reason behind why someone may not want to publicize their thoughts, opinions, or perspectives is often due to a Fear of Confrontation or conflict. That’s not just a clever way for you to read another post while on this site as it’s actually true. It’s often easier to nod and smile politely rather than express a differing thought because you may not know how the other person will respond. But to this, I say: who cares? It’s your opinion. If they disagree with it, then that’s just their opinion. Unless something is factually inaccurate, an opinion is simply just your perspective on a matter which can coincide with or contradict someone else’s thoughts. Is red a better colour than blue? Is a rhombus a more obscure shape than a tetradecagon? Anyone who faults you for bringing a voice to contribute to a discussion probably isn’t confident in sharing their own thoughts and thus has to comment on yours to avoid sharing their own. The kind of people who actually think Superman would beat Batman in a fight. I mean, really? Are these the people you want to even be talking to? So wrong.

And hey, while you’re here…have you checked out the podcast I do? It is completely irrelevant to this post and even this website as a whole. Well, except sometimes we talk about horror movies so I guess that’s relevant. You should definitely check it out and share it with your friends. Without a doubt, it’s the single greatest podcast ever created.
