This is great movie! It’s a Top 10 for me in terms of favourite movies to re-watch a dozen times and still find it as amazing every time. Is it too late to nominate it for some awards? I should stop making this review so biased and let you come to your own conclusions about how awesome this movie is by reading this Things I Fear Movie Review of The Cabin in the Woods.

Start with every conceivable stereotype you can think of in any given horror movie. The cast, the dialogue, the plot, the script and the acting itself. This movie tackles each and every generic point and covers it beautifully as a cynical and satirical masterpiece. So you’ve got your group of seemingly clueless friends eager to go on a misadventure alone in an unfamiliar setting. They arrive at their destination, an old cabin in the middle of nowhere, and immediately the tone is set for what to expect but that is also combined with a random and unique side plot that gets so ridiculous. You’ve got 5 friends alone together thinking they are on a fun weekend away but it turns into a horrific bloodbath pretty quickly.

The cast in this movie is a bunch of people I’ve definitely seen before in other movies but couldn’t tell you the names. I think one is Chris Hemsworth but it could be Chris Pine or Chris Pratt or another Chris. It might not even be him at all. Is Liam Hemsworth someone? And one of the other guys is McSteamy or McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy. You are most welcome for this comprehensive breakdown of the cast.

So without spoiling too much because I actually encourage you to watch this movie for yourself unlike this one or even worse this one in which you should never watch, here is what happens: This outside force is what determines the fate of the group of friends by forcing free will on them (I stand by the oxymoron) and that’s what determines the majority of the plot. The outside force watches their every move and helps nudge the characters in the right direction to meet their demise. It’s really cool how it’s done. But again I will let you come to your own conclusions for why it’s awesome.

What’s your favourite type of horror movie? Ghosts? Social Media? Monsters? Spiders? Demons? Snakes? Zombies? This movie has got you covered. It’s pretty amazing how they are able to make sure everyone is given something to cheer for in a variety of different ways. The best part about it though is the consistently witty dialogue, the quirky characters and the beautiful undertone of sarcasm. But man oh man the one scene with the elevators is the greatest moment in cinematic history.
