Have you ever found yourself walking through a subway terminal and can’t help but bump into pillars or walls mistaking them for life-sized images of your favourite candy snack or coffee brand? What about when you’re driving and miss your exit on the highway because you were too distracted by the logo of a plumber featured on the side of a truck? Or what about trying to read a post on a website and there are too many damn ads everywhere? If you have a Fear of Advertising, you might worry about situations like these.

Does This Sound Like You?

Advertising controls our lives. You cannot go anywhere or do anything without being forced to endure some kind of promotion in some capacity. Go on, try to think of single example and let me know what you come up with. On one hand, advertising is great because it lets us know about new products or businesses or why 4 out 5 dentists agree all types of toothpaste do the exact same thing. On the other hand, it’s the devil.

Having a Fear of Advertising doesn’t mean you need to stay in your house all day because you don’t want to risk encountering an ad in your travels. It means you stay in your house all day because you saw an ad one time in your travels and now you are seeing it everywhere you go because that’s how advertising works today. It’s sort of like having a shadow that is constantly telling you you can save 30% off Shamwow when you buy 5 of them. Which is pretty much the worst kind of shadow you can have, all things considered.

So what can you do if you have a Fear of Advertising? Realistically, there’s not much you can do other than just embrace the fact advertising exists and it will never go away. Sorry if that bursts your bubble but you’re the one with the issue, not me. Hell, I work in advertising so it better not be going away or I might have to rely on this website for my income. Hence the ads. It was between that and putting out a mix tape of me rapping.
