Some call it the witching hour, some the demons hour, to some it’s known as dead time. Despite what you may call it, 3:15am is still widely regarded as the most terrifying time. It is at this moment that the gap that divides the living from the dead becomes so narrow that the line is virtually erased, causing spirits to cross over. Specifically, it is at this moment that more ghostly encounters are recorded than any other time. All of those times you have woken up in the middle of the night and noticed it was just after 3 weren’t coincidences. If you ever wake up at exactly 3:15, it’s usually because someone or something has woken you up. Let’s explore Fear of 3:15.
The reason many people have a Fear of 3:15 is often because it’s referred to as the Devil’s Number. Much like 666. Arguments can be made that it was at this time that Jesus died on the cross. Or 3:15 is the polar opposite time that Jesus died. Regardless of what story you believe, the religious connotations of this time are beside the underlying point. At 3:15am, more spiritual activity happens than at any other point. The feeling of discomfort; feeling like someone is watching you, or that you aren’t alone peaks at this time. All of the shadows you see move in the corner of your eye reach their shadowiest. Every thought that you disregard as nothing more than your mind playing tricks on you becomes more real than you would have hoped.
Time Out: What’s Fear of 3:15?
It’s one of those urban legends that packs more truth to it than just your run-of-the-mill hook in the car door or a stranger calling the house from upstairs. It’s like standing in front of the bathroom mirror, surrounded by candles, and chanting Bloody Mary. The difference is something will actually happen. Maybe not every single time to you directly, but somewhere, something is happening. For those who recently crossed over to the other side, the odds of them being able to cross back over are heightened. That’s when most spirits get caught up in the halfway; Purgatory, if you will, is the middle between Heaven and Hell.
If you have ever seen the movie Insidious you will have seen basically what 3:15 looks like for both sides. In pop culture, 3:15 is referred to in several movies including Amityville Horror and Paranormal Activity. It’s not just a happy coincidence that this time is chosen.
Doing a little bit of research on the subject (and by research I mean typing 3:15am into Google and then clicking the top 5 links) you can see that this is a global occurrence. It happens to people all over the world. Though the stories differ, the underlying concept that SOMETHING happens is constant. Whether it’s feeling breathing behind you, a knock at the front door but no one is there, or animals acting strange, people have been directly involved in some pretty frightening situations.
Turning the Clocks Back on Fear of 3:15
If you are someone who has a Fear of 3:15 or Fears it as a result of this article (my bad, there are things you can do to feel a little safer when this time rolls around. One idea would be to not host a séance at this time. That’s usually a good start. Another idea would be to avoid walking around alone in any haunted areas. If you are in a position where you have no choice but to do so, at least try your best to avoid using a Ouija board. Otherwise, just hide under your blankets. That’s why they were invented. That’s really all the advice I have on this topic which is unusual because I’m usually just so helpful when it comes to this kind of thing.
