What has 100 legs, can fly, drains your blood and lives in every corner of your house? The answer may surprise you. Of course, if you have a Fear of Bugs, you may have been expecting the answer this whole time because it’s bugs. Bugs are all of those things and much more.
Where Does Fear of Bugs Come From?
It’s fairly common to have a Fear of Bugs considering they outnumber humans 6:1. Meaning every time you go “ugh there are too many people on the roads right now” or “ugh the world is so small, I keep seeing the same people everyday”, bugs have it much worse. They are constantly looking for new places to live only to find it’s already occupied by 100 other bugs. Namely, your house. A spider tries to take a bath but there’s already a centipede in there. A ladybug tries to land on a plate of food but a fly has already claimed it as its own. A wasp casually wants to sting you and flee the scene only to discover a mosquito is knee-deep in your neck. The life of a bug is tough which is why Disney made a documentary about it.
Let’s say you’re a big fan of spending your limited available free time in your backyard cultivating the land in an effort to forage for consumable vegetation after several weeks of manual labour. Gardening. You’ve probably encountered a few snakes in your travels but have more than likely been menaced by bugs too. Whether it’s a beetle hiding under a rock waiting to strike, a cicada screaming at you from a tree or a maggot deciding it would happily eat the literal fruits of your labour, there are numerous reasons to have a Fear of Bugs. Or a Fear of gardening, I guess.
How to Crawl Away From Your Fear of Bugs
So what can you do if you or someone you know has a Fear of Bugs aside from a quest to destroy every creepy crawly on the planet? After failing at that you can consider things like how crucial bugs are for the environment in any ecological climate. Or consider how some larger bugs feed on the smaller bugs you probably despise and are actually doing you a favour. Some people also like to control the bug population by eating them so the next time you find a centipede crawling across your ceiling or a spider dangling down their web onto your shoulder, consider grabbing some salt and pepper to make a snack instead. That should fix that Fear of yours.
