Fear of Flying is one of those Fears you hear about from the stranger sitting in the seat next to you while on the plane who says “you know, I have a Fear of Flying” and you think “great, thanks for sharing” but then they elaborate on why and, in rigorous detail, explain every conceivable thing that could go horribly wrong before you even leave the tarmac. Next thing you know, you have developed a Fear of Flying and desperately need a post like this one to remind you why it’s a ridiculous Fear to have.
How Fear of Flying Can Take Off
Whether it’s the thought of a plane engine exploding because a bird decided to try to prove it’s not a chicken to another bird by flying into it, the plane mistaking itself for a boat by soaring straight into the open ocean or the idea of your captain actually being a snake just wearing a pilots outfit the whole time (is that what happens in that Samuel L Jackson movie?), there are a lot of reasons to have a Fear of Flying. Alternatively, it could be something like a screaming baby seated next to you or your seat not being able to recline as much as you would like. Lots of things could go horribly wrong while you’re soaring at 35,000 feet.
Planes are the oldest form of transportation next to cars, trains and power-walking. That may or may not actually be true but you don’t often hear about a caveman taking the red-eye to Los Angeles. Over the course of their illustrious career, planes have undergone some pretty serious improvements to their designs and functionality. From humble beginnings when they were made out of paper and mistakes, airplanes are now constructed out of solid metal which defies gravity by staying in the air.
How to Ground Your Fear of Flying
Millions of planes depart on world-wide trips everyday so they’ve gotten pretty good at things like not crashing. With that said, it does still happen but the odds of it are very small. In fact, you have a better chance of cutting off the tip of your thumb while preparing julienne carrots, being struck by lightning, or falling into a bottomless pit according to a study that was written for the purpose of this article and has no scientific backing whatsoever.
One way of getting over your Fear of Flying is by attempting to fly yourself. Simply start by standing on a flat surface and flapping your arms until you’ve achieved flight. While doing this, think about all of the positives of being airborne. As this can take a while, you will slowly be able to overcome your Fear entirely. Your welcome.
