Do you enjoy sitting alone in a dark basement, basking in the dim glow of a television while laying down, almost completely motionless on a couch covered in chip crumbs and broken dreams? Or do you have a Fear of Online gaming? This Fear isn’t limited to just basements. It can take place in your bedroom, kitchen, family room, dining room, in the car, or in the washroom. Wherever there is access to gaming online, the Fear can exist.
Fear of Online Gaming 3: Gamers Revenge
Fear of Online Gaming can occur for several reasons. One of the most common reasons is that you simply don’t own a game popular enough to warrant an online-play feature. That’s nerve-wracking. Or when you look down at your extensive collection of games you’ve bought online (assuming you leave the house) and wonder what you’re doing with your life. And that’s not even getting to the actual gaming part of it yet. If you do have a half-decent game that people are familiar with, chances are there is a massive online community that you can join in and be a part of.
To backtrack and explain what online gaming refers to, online communities range from 13 year old girls who are playing a game their older brothers bought but no longer can be bothered to play because suddenly it’s not cool anymore, all the way to ex-military members with PTSD who need to play these games because they feel like they are trapped within the console itself. It’s a star-studded cast all around!
Unplug From Your Fear of Online Gaming
Let’s assume you are playing online right now. What’s so scary about it? Other than everything. You are playing with strangers who spend more time insulting your playing ability and insinuating that they are sexually active with your mother than actually playing the game. It’s a dark, dark place. If you have a microphone, you can attempt to communicate with your teammates and/or enemies. If you don’t, you have to sit there and silence and just hear the words they are yelling at you. Of course, some people just scream profanities. Or non-nonsensical words that are strung together until they become something that vaguely resembles a sentence. And then there are those people who have a microphone but you can only hear them breathing. There is nothing more alarming than that.
Online gaming is basically a way to make friends online while having your self esteem crushed. Unless you are one of those players who is really good. Then you just have absolutely no life. No one is “good” at video games. If you think you are good, someone is always better. And online gaming is the perfect way to find that out. Sorry if that just devastated you. No one said it was going to be easy.
